A graduate of Hampshire High herself, Miss Esther Samuelson (Sammie) was, for many students, one of the first friendly faces they came to know in the high school library. As the school librarian, she helped generations of students make the adjustment to the “big” school a little easier and was always ready to help them find the books and resources they needed.
The Class of 1953 dedicated their Hi-Lighter yearbook to Sammie in gratitude for her hard work, unselfish devotion, encouragement, and enthusiasm. Years later, the Class of 1970 fondly recalled an unforgettable Chicago class trip she organized — a reminder that learning could reach far beyond the walls of the library. They dedicated their Reflections yearbook in her honor, recognizing at that time her more than fifty years of service to the students of Hampshire High.
